GroupOn Looking For Affiliates In India; Competitor Launches GroupOn.in
Medianama March 9, 2011 India, March 9 — After entering the Indian market by acquiring daily deals SoSasta.com, group-buying* major GroupOn is on an aggressive hunt for web-affiliates. Oddly enough, they contacted MediaNama with a proposal for partnership. Under the partnership, the company sets-up a GroupOn-SoSasta widget on the partner website’s home page. Whenever some one clicks on it, gets re-directed to SoSasta and buys a deal, the partner gets a commission. The affiliate structure that we were sent: website groupon sandiego
- For deals less than or equal to Rs 500, the partner gets 5% of the deal price as commission.
- For deals more than Rs 500, the partner is offered a flat cut of Rs 30.
GroupOn SoSasta presently offers deals ranging from astrology consultations to salon packages and diagnostic checkups in Kolkata, Delhi/NCR, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Jaipur. Deals on group-buying sites need to be interesting for the sites to pick up.
GroupOn’s International Model GroupOn’s international affiliate program pays a 2% commission on deals purchased by old customers and 10% commission for new customers. It shares commission on every transaction referral, plus it also offers commission on any transaction that occurs within 30 days of the initial referral. Which means that even if a customer does not buy a deal at the time of clicking the ad on the partner website and decides to buy later(within 30 days), the affiliate gets a commission. It shares the commission each time the customer buys a deal in the 30 day period. The commission is performance based and can go upto 15% on all sales. Besides this, it also runs other promotions for affiliates.
GroupOn.in Meanwhile, it looks like SoSasta might not be able to leverage the GroupOn brand in Groupon.in, a site run by Bangalore based ValueNet Ecommerce (which is advertising as GroupOff; see this), is also running a daily deals site. What’s working noting is that, at least according to their website, they’ve trademarked the name GroupOn. Ouch. This could get dirty. It looks like a legitimate site, so we doubt that they can be accused of cybersquatting. site groupon sandiego

How do you supersize a clothing store? Do they serve food now? Can you purchase milk there also? Too funny.

That’s hilarious. Is there a smaller ‘cineseria’ outside of town and they felt the need to supersize it?

Nadine – very funny…maybe they have ice cream in the back??
KC, NYC, Louise, and Erin – it is even funnier in person.
J – they ARE with the new camera, although I am not 100% happy with it yet. I need to read the whole manual and figure everything out.
J. Doe – There are cineserias all over town, but this is the first and ONLY super store I have ever seen. I went in…it was newer – that is about it!
